The civil portion of the Chandler case against Jackson was mutually settled with the payment of an undisclosed amount of money. In a legal court document filed in court on March 22, 2005, it was stated that Jackson’s insurance carrier ultimately negotiated and paid the full settlement amount[2]. The court document states that “the 1993 civil settlement was made by Mr. Jackson’s insurance company and was not within Mr. Jackson’s control… The settlement agreement was for global claims of negligence and the lawsuit was defended by Mr. Jackson’s insurance carrier. The insurance carrier negotiated and paid the settlement, over the protests of Mr. Jackson and his personal legal counsel.”
In 2005, according to Raymond Chandler, Jordan left the country to avoid testifying in the trial against Jackson; Ray states that Jordan does not like the media attention and has moved three times since the case began. His mother, June Chandler, has not seen her son in 11 years either, and Ray is also estranged from her.
In 2006, Jordan Chandler accused his father of abuse. The accuser, now 26, says his ex-dentist dad Evan Chandler “struck him on the head from behind with … (dumbbell) weight … sprayed his eyes with Mace or pepper spray, and tried to choke him” last year, according to court documents filed in New Jersey.
As some of you know, the man in the picture is Jordan Chandler, the boy who had once accused Michael Jackson of molesting him in 1993. He currently lives in New York/New Jersey with the money he obtained from the settlement in the 1993 case.
Many people like Diane Dimond want you to think Jordan’s life is going great…in reality Jordan is a legal fight with his father, Evan Chandler. Jordan sued his father because in mid 2005 (now his father is suing him as well) because his father tried to KILL HIM. Take his own son’s life away. Jordan Chandler accuses his father of hitting him over the head with a 12-pound weight, spraying his eyes with mace and trying to choke him.
Why isn’t this information all over TMZ? Why isn’t Diane Dimond all over this one? If Diane can find out what underwear Thomas Sneddon Jr. is wearing, why can’t she find out about this case? Perhaps because she may be afraid to know why he would do something like that to his own SON. Perhaps she fears what she will find out. I would think that Evan Chandler trying to take out his son would be ALL OVER THE NEWS. I’m wrong. These folks don’t care about Jordan Chandler and what happens to him if it not related to Michael Jackson. But, who says it isn’t? Some alleged Evan and Jordan dispute is over money! You know that money they got from Michael Jackson’s insurance. I wonder, if Evan Chandler was capable of causing such injuries to his own son over what some allege is money, then why wouldn’t he be capable of falsely accusing a rich celebrity to get that money? It seems nothing stands in the way of Evan Chandler. Not even his own son.

The accuser, now 26, says his ex-dentist dad Evan Chandler “struck him on the head from behind with a 12-1/2-pound [dumbbell] weight … sprayed his eyes with Mace or pepper spray and tried to choke him” last year, according to court documents filed in New Jersey.
It’s a mystery why the son and the father, who became millionaires in 1994, thanks to the Jackson sex-abuse settlement, were fighting in August 2005 – just two months after the singer’s acquittal in another [alleged abuse] case involving a teenage cancer survivor.
Santa Barbara County prosecutors had begged the 1993 accuser to testify at Jackson’s 2005 trial, hoping he could bolster that alleged victim’s similar story of fondling at the pop star’s hands. But the college graduate refused to get involved. (ANI)

I like how the author of this article tries to portray Jordan as a poor little child against his big, bad father. He was 25 years old at the time of the alleged attack. And if it was so serious, why are you trying to sue him for money now instead of pressing legal charges?

Davz is right. There was no credible evidence presented against Jackson. People who talk differently on the matter, clearly have not read into the case. Very different from OJ. Not to sound cliche, but all public opinion against Jackson has been built purely on self serving media headlines and tabloids (financial/popularity reasons, obviously). This is easily proven just by asking someone who thinks that MJ was guilty, exactly why they believe that. I guarantee that none of them would be able to provide any convicting, factual information, if any info at all on the case. Extremely typical result of distributing information to a mass populous. One more note of personal opinion: none of this had anything to do with any God you my believe in. This happened, just as most everything else does because of the actions of people.
My advice: If you want to know something, find out for yourself.

There were no facts in either case to support anything the two boys had said. In fact, the first one, Jordan Chandler didn’t even want to testify. So boom that tells you right there, MJ was innocent. The media reported that Jordie Chandler’s description of markings on MJ’s penis were similar in person. The media failed to report that while Jordie Chandler said that MJ was circumcised, Mj actually was not. I point to Amy Fisher who also said that she could describe a penis–Joey Buttafucco’s penis. Right after the description, Joey went to jail.
MJ did not settle after the strip search. The insurance company settled after Evan Chandler sought a detailed accounting of MJ’s income. Evan claimed that he was at a disadvantage financially in the civil suit.
As for OJ, he was found not guilty because the most incriminating evidence against him–IMO–was precluded due to the unlawful search conducted at his house on the night of the murder. The DA executed upon 10 search warrants in the MJ case and (surprise, surprise) found nothing.
It does not surprise me that Evan Chandler tried to kill his son after the verdict in 2005. He probably wanted to stop Jordie from coming out and telling the truth.
Don’t blame Jordan, he was a child who did not willingly go along with this evil plan. It was his father Evan Chandler who perpetrated the scheme. Rather than blame Jordan, we should offer him support to come forward with the truth. He should not feel victimized once again for what his father did. Michael would want us ALL to pave the way for Jordan to do this difficult task by offering love and understanding. It’s obvious that there are MANY people out there with no understanding of pedophilia. It is a mental abberance; rather like the impulse that serial killers experience. It simply defies the typical lack of impulse control found in most cases of pedophilia that Michael would manage to resist the temptation in hundreds of cases where he had access to young children. If he had been a pedophile, there would have been hundreds of victims coming forward, instead of two who were obviously more concerned with civil suit money than taking their cases to a criminal court. That is what makes me wonder about the prosecutor Sneddon — he was not professional in any way and lacked an education. he got it in his mind to go after Jackson and that is all he wanted to do. if Jackson were a pedophile there would have been many cases and the cops would have returned with mounds of evidence from all the properties they’d searched. It was pretty much swept under the rug. As a result, my sister turned to alcohol & died young from liver damage. The toxins went to her brain and like a child the last thing she cried out was “Mommy, mommy, please tell him to leave me alone. It tore my heart up because I knew what she meant. I don’t know why I wasn’t molested by this pedophile, but I feel like I was too because he got away with it & I had to watch her slowly destroy herself since she was 13 and then watch her die in the hospital. I also had a friend who died at 37 who was molested, she too was an alcoholic and eventually drank herself to death. A lot of these kids need therapy but never get it. I wonder how the children that claim Michael Jackson molested them are doing emotionally and if the parents ever took them for therapy. Actually, it DID happen to someone I know, a very good friend. He was invited to the ranch, he slept in the bed with MJ, and MJ… didn’t do anything. And while this obviously does not wholly exonerate MJ, because after all it was just one group out of hundreds of groups of children that were invited, it makes a pretty loud statement to me.

In 1993, Michael Jackson was accused of abuse by Evan Chandler, on behalf of his then-13-year-old child, Jordan Chandler. Jackson and Jordan had become friends in May 1992, to the father’s disapproval and concern. The friendship became well known, as the tabloid media reported that Jackson became a member of the Chandler family unit. Under the influence of a controversial sedative administered by Evan Chandler, his son said that Jackson had touched his penis.[1] Evan Chandler was tape-recorded threatening to damage the singer’s music career,[2] and engaged Jackson in unsuccessful negotiations to resolve the issue with a financial settlement.[3] Jordan Chandler then told a psychiatrist and later police that he and Jackson had engaged in acts of kissing, masturbation, and oral sex, as well as giving a description of what he alleges were the singer’s genitals.[4][3]
Jackson’s home, Neverland Ranch, was searched, even though other children and family members had stated that Jackson was not a pedophile. Jackson’s older sister, La Toya Jackson, accused her brother of being a pedophile, but later retracted her statement.[5] Jackson became dependent on drugs as the stress of the allegations mounted,[6][7] and canceled the remainder of his tour. He went into rehabilitation overseas, and began a relationship with Lisa Marie Presley. On his return to the US, Jackson agreed to a 25-minute strip search, which was required to see if the description of his genitals provided by Jordan Chandler was accurate. Doctors concluded that there were some strong similarities but it was not a definitive match. Jackson proclaimed his innocence, and criticized the media coverage. Jackson’s friends and legal advisers took over his defense and finances, persuading him to settle the allegations out of court.
Tabloid reaction to the allegations were negative towards Jackson,[8] and complaints about the coverage included bias and accepting stories of criminal activity for money, and engaging in illegal activities themselves.[9] Public polls at the time reported that a large majority of people believed Jackson was innocent.[10] On January 1, 1994, Jackson settled a civil suit out of court with the Chandler family and their legal team for $22 million. Because Jordan Chandler refused to testify in the criminal proceedings, the state closed its criminal investigation citing lack of evidence, and Jackson was not charged with a crime. Jackson’s support amongst the public then began to waver, and Jackson’s own career and image was significantly damaged, which became a recurring theme in Jackson’s future music. Prosecution evidence from the 1993 allegations would also be used against the entertainer in the 2005 People v. Jackson child sexual abuse trial, where he was acquitted on all counts.[11][12]

By the summer of 1993, it was revealed that Jackson allowed children to sleep over at his Neverland ranch, a fact which came under much media scrutiny when child sexual abuse allegations were brought against him.[13][14] Jackson became firm friends with Jordan Chandler and his family after a meeting in May 1992, as he was a fan of Jackson.[9] Their friendship became so close that the National Enquirer ran a featured story with the title “Michael’s New Adopted Family”, which implied that Jackson had “stolen” the family from the father, Evan Chandler, who was admittedly jealous over Jackson’s influence on his son.[15] Communications between Jackson and the father broke down further when Chandler asked, “Look, are you having sex with my son?”. The father’s opinion of Jackson then changed, to the extent that he invited Jackson to build an extra wing on their home so that the singer could move in with them permanently.[15] Chandler’s concerns about the close friendship returned, and he tried to prevent Jackson from seeing his son, using a prior custody agreement.[9]
Once incorrectly labeled a “Truth Serum”, sodium Amytal has long been discredited by the medical profession. It is now considered a mind-altering sedative.On July 2, 1993, in a private telephone conversation, Chandler was tape recorded as saying,
There was no reason why he [Jackson] had to stop calling me…I picked the nastiest son of a bitch I could find [Evan Chandler's lawyer, Barry Rothman], all he wants to do is get this out in the public as fast as he can, as big as he can and humiliate as many people as he can. He’s nasty, he’s mean, he’s smart and he’s hungry for publicity. Everything’s going to a certain plan that isn’t just mine. Once I make that phone call, this guy is going to destroy everybody in sight in any devious, nasty, cruel way that he can do it. I’ve given him full authority to do that. Jackson is an evil guy, he is worse than that and I have the evidence to prove it. If I go through with this, I win big-time. There’s no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever…Michael’s career will be over.[2]

In the same conversation, when asked how this would affect his son, Chandler replied, “That’s irrelevant to me…It will be a massacre if I don’t get what I want. It’s going to be bigger than all us put together…This man [Jackson] is going to be humiliated beyond belief…He will not sell one more record”.[2] The recorded conversation was a critical aspect of Jackson’s defense against the upcoming allegation made against him. He and his supporters argue that he was the victim of a jealous father whose only goal was to extort money from the singer.[2]
In early August, Chandler, a registered dentist, extracted a tooth from his son’s mouth, and was later forced to admit that he used the controversial sedative sodium Amytal during the procedure.[1] Under the influence of the drug, Jordan alleged that Jackson had touched his penis. Experts state that the drug sodium Amytal “makes patients extremely susceptible to suggestions”.[1] Dr Lewis Strong, a Los Angeles psychiatrist stated, “You can’t trust it, I never use it in my practice. I have found it to be unreliable. It’s certainly not a truth serum”.[1] Dr Kenneth Gottlieb, a San Francisco psychiatrist who has used the drug, stated, “I would never want to use a drug that tampers with a person’s unconscious unless there was no other drug available, and I would not use it without resuscitation equipment in case of allergic reaction”.[1]
Over the next couple of months both parties engaged in unsuccessful (out of court) financial negotiations, with Chandler and his legal team asking for $20 million, or the issue would be taken to criminal court.[3] Jackson declined the offer, saying, “No way in Hell”. A few weeks later, Jackson’s legal team gave a counter-offer to the value of $1 million, which was declined by Chandler.[3] The father then lowered his request to $15 million; Jackson rejected this and lowered his original counter-offer to $350,000. With both sides unable to reach an agreement, Chandler decided he would take it to court.[3] Chandler then took his son to see a psychiatrist called Dr. Mathis Abrams, and during the three-hour session with the doctor, Jordan Chandler said he had had a sexual relationship with Jackson that included incidents of kissing, masturbation and oral sex that went on for months. He then repeated these allegations to police and gave a detailed description of what he alleged was Jackson’s penis.[3][4]

On August 18, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit began a criminal investigation into Jackson. The same day, Jordan Chandler’s mother told police that she did not believe Jackson had molested her son.[4][13][14][16] On August 21, a search warrant was issued, allowing police to search Jackson’s Neverland Ranch. Police questioned 30 children who were friends of Jackson, with all denying that the singer was a child molester.[13][16] A police officer involved in the investigation told The Los Angeles Times that no evidence (medical, photographic or video) could be found that would support a criminal filing.[16] The same day the allegations were made public, Jackson began the second leg of his Dangerous World Tour in Bangkok. On August 24, Jackson’s investigator held a press conference accusing Chandler of trying to extort $20 million from the singer, although the investigator failed to mention that Jackson had given several counter-offers.[13][16] On August 25, Jackson’s young friends Brett Barnes and Wade Robson held a press conference where they stated that they had slept in the same bed as Jackson, but nothing sexual in nature had occurred.[8][17] Jackson’s family soon held a press conference of their own to show support, saying it was their “unequivocal belief that Michael has been made a victim of a cruel and obvious attempt to take advantage of his fame and wealth.”[8][17] The police then began an investigation into Evan Chandlers’s prior actions and found that he was $68,400 behind in his child support payments, even though he was well-paid as a dentist.[9] On November 8, police searched the Jackson family home, Hayvenhurst, but found nothing of importance to add to their investigation.[6][13]
In the winter of 1993, despite not seeing or speaking to Jackson for a number of years, La Toya Jackson claimed that her brother was a pedophile and that she had proof, which she was prepared to disclose for a fee of $500,000. A bidding war between US and UK tabloids began, but fell through when they realised that her revelations were not what she had claimed them to be.[5] Then in Israel, she stated, “I cannot and will not be a silent collaborator in his crimes against young children… Forget about the superstar, forget about the icon. If he was any other 35-year-old man who was sleeping with little boys, you wouldn’t like this guy”.[5] She also claimed that checks had been made out to several boys and that Jackson’s own physical abuse as a child had turned him into an abuser.[5][18] She would later claim that Jackson had tried to kidnap and kill her.[18] The rest of the family disowned her, and in subsequent years she would insist that she was forced to make the allegations by her then husband for financial gain.[5] Just prior to making the allegations, her husband was arrested for striking her in the face, arms and legs with a chair.[19] By the turn of the millennium Jackson had forgiven his sister.[5]

Jackson first met Lisa Marie Presley (the daughter of Elvis Presley) in 1974, during one of Jackson’s family engagements at the MGM Grand.[8] In 1993, Jackson was reconnected with Presley through a mutual friend, staying in contact every day by telephone. As the child sexual abuse accusations became public, Jackson became dependent on Lisa Marie for emotional support; she was concerned about his faltering health and his addiction to drugs.[20] Lisa Marie explained, “I believed he didn’t do anything wrong and that he was wrongly accused and yes I started falling for him. I wanted to save him. I felt that I could do it.”[21] In one phone call he made to her, she described him as high, incoherent and delusional.[20] Jackson proposed to Lisa Marie over the telephone towards the fall of 1993, saying, “If I asked you to marry me, would you do it?”.[20] The marriage was, in her words, “a married couple’s life … that was sexually active”.[22] They divorced less than two years later, remaining friendly.[23] The entertainer began taking painkillers, Valium, Xanax and Ativan to deal with the stress of the allegations made against him.[20] A few months after the allegations became news, Jackson had lost approximately 10 pounds in weight and had stopped eating.[24] In a court deposition unrelated to alleged child abuse, Jackson was visibly drowsy, lacked concentration and repeatedly slurred while speaking. He could not remember the dates of his prior album releases or names of people he had worked with and took several minutes to name some of his recent albums.[25] Jackson’s health had deteriorated to the extent that he canceled the remainder of his tour and flew with Elizabeth Taylor and her husband to London. When the singer arrived at the airport, he had to be held up; he was then rushed to the home of Elton John’s manager and afterwards to a clinic,[6][7] but when he was searched for drugs on entry, 18 vials of medicine were found in a suitcase. Jackson booked the whole fourth floor of the clinic, and was put on Valium IV to wean him from painkillers.[6][7][14] The singer’s spokesperson told reporters that Jackson was “barely able to function adequately on an intellectual level”.[7] While in the clinic, Jackson took part in group and one-on-one therapy sections.[6][7]

Michael Jackson in 1988, two years after he was diagnosed with vitiligo, pictured in the early stages of the diseaseIn December, Jackson was served with a warrant for a strip search of his body, as police wanted to verify Jordan Chandler’s description of Jackson’s genitals, and details of patches of vitiligo on the singer’s body; an illness Jackson was diagnosed with in the mid 1980s.[5][26] The order stated that officers were to examine, photograph and videotape Jackson’s entire body, “including his penis, anus, hips, buttocks and any other part of his body”.[5][26][27] The warrant stated that refusal to comply would be used in court as a possible indication of guilt. The strip search took place on December 20 at the entertainer’s ranch. Those present for the prosecution were District Attorney Tom Sneddon, a detective, a photographer and a doctor. Those present on behalf of Jackson were his two attorneys, a physician, a detective, a bodyguard and a photographer.[5] The attorneys and Sneddon agreed to leave the room when the examination took place, and Jackson demanded that the prosecution detective should also leave, which he subsequently did. In an emotional state, Jackson stood on a platform in the middle of the room, took off all his clothes and was examined for approximately 25 minutes, although he was never physically touched.[5] The search report concluded that there were some strong similarities between Chandler’s description and Jackson’s body, but there wasn’t a definite match.[5]

On December 22, Jackson responded to the allegations and everything that had occurred for the first time via satellite from his ranch:
As you may already know, after my tour ended I remained out of the country [US] undergoing treatment for a dependency on pain medication…There have been many disgusting statements made recently concerning allegations of improper conduct on my part. These statements about me are totally false…I will say I am particularly upset by the handling of the mass matter by the incredible, terrible mass media. At every opportunity, the media has dissected and manipulated these allegations to reach their own conclusions. I ask all of you to wait and hear the truth before you label or condemn me. Don’t treat me like a criminal, because I am innocent. I have been forced to submit to a dehumanizing and humiliating examination…It was the most humiliating ordeal of my life…But if this is what I have to endure to prove my innocence, my complete innocence, so be it.[13][14][28]

A poll at the time, conducted by A Current Affair, found that nearly 75 percent of people believed Jackson was telling the truth in his response.[29] While Jackson sought medical help for his faltering health, his legal team and friends, such as Presley and Taylor, took control of his defense and finances.[24] Much of Jackson’s legal team would meet three times a week at Taylor’s home to discuss the case.[24] Taylor then called in more legal professionals on Jackson’s behalf. Eventually Presley, Taylor, and Jackson’s team all agreed that the singer should settle out of court; it was their opinion that the entertainer’s health had deteriorated to such a degree that he could not endure a lengthy trial.[7]
[edit] Media reaction and settlement
Complaints about the coverage and media included using sensational headlines to draw in readers and viewers when the content itself did not support the headline,[16] accepting stories of Jackson’s alleged criminal activity in return for money,[30] accepting confidential leaked material from the police investigation in return for money paid,[9] deliberately using pictures of Jackson’s appearance at its worst,[8] a lack of objectivity[8] and using headlines that strongly implied Jackson’s guilt.[8]
The New York Post ran the headline “Peter Pan or Pervert”, despite minimal information being disclosed by the police.[8] Just two weeks after the allegations were reported, the headline, “Michael Jackson: A Curtain Closes” reflected the attitude of most tabloid-orientated media.[31] In a piece for Hard Copy, Diane Dimond—a journalist who would spend the next 15 years trying to prove Jackson was a pedophile—ran a story stating, “And one more shocker, Hard Copy has obtained new documents in the criminal investigation of Michael Jackson, and they are chilling; they contain the name of child movie actor Macaulay Culkin”. The document itself stated that Culkin strongly denied being harmed by Jackson.[16]
Two tabloid television shows accepted confidential leaked documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services for $20,000.[9] A number of Jackson’s former employees—most of whom had worked at his ranch—sold stories to the tabloids of alleged prior sexual misconduct on Jackson’s part, instead of reporting their claims to police. One couple initially asked for $100,000 claiming that Jackson sexually caressed Macaulay Culkin. They were prepared to expand upon this allegation for a fee of $500,000, whereby they would allege that Jackson put his hands down Culkin’s pants. When the story broke, Culkin strongly denied the allegation, and did so again in court.[30] A former security guard made various allegations about Jackson, saying he was fired because he “knew too much”,[32] and alleged that he was ordered by Jackson to destroy a photo of a naked boy. Instead of reporting this to police, Hard Copy accepted the story in return for $150,000.[32] Afterwards, Jackson’s maid, Branca Francia, alleged that she “quit in disgust” after seeing Jackson in a shower with a child, but did not inform the police. It later emerged that Francia was actually fired in 1991, but nevertheless sold her story to Hard Copy for $20,000.[32]
When Jackson left the US to go into rehabilitation, the media showed the singer little sympathy. The Daily Mirror (UK) held a “Spot the Jacko” contest, offering readers a trip to Disney World if they could correctly predict where the entertainer would appear next.[6] A Daily Express headline read, “Drug Treatment Star Faces Life on the Run”, while a News of the World headline accused Jackson of being a fugitive. These tabloids also falsely alleged that Jackson had traveled to Europe to have cosmetic surgery that would make him unrecognizable on his return.[6] Geraldo Rivera set up a mock trial, with a jury made up of audience members, even though Jackson had not been charged with a crime.[33]
[edit] Public reaction prior to settlement
Despite the negative attitude of the media, the public (at least before the out-of-court settlement) still supported Jackson. A phone-in poll conducted by A Current Affair—known for its unfavorable coverage of the allegations—found that more than 80 percent of callers did not believe the Chandlers.[10] A poll of teenagers—Jackson’s central fan base at the time—also reported that 75 percent did not believe the allegations; this rose to nearly 90 percent amongst African American teenagers. Two thirds of children between the ages of 13 to 15—the approximate age of Jordan Chandler at the time—believed he was innocent.[10] A poll conducted by Entertainment Weekly showed that only 12 percent of adults believed the allegations, and only 8 percent of people were less likely to buy a product endorsed by the entertainer. The same poll also concluded that public opinion of Jackson had risen since the allegations, with Jackson’s past records selling at a faster rate.[10][31]

By January 1, 1994, $2 million had been spent by prosecution departments in California, two Grand Juries had questioned two hundred witnesses, but Jordan’s allegations could not be corroborated.[34] A few weeks later, Chandler’s attorney, Larry Feldman, petitioned the court that he should be allowed access to Jackson’s finances over concerns that the singer’s wealth would give him an unfair advantage in court. One adviser to Jackson stated, “You can take pictures of Michael’s dick and he’s not gonna like it, but once you start trying to figure out how much money he has, that’s where he stops playing around.”[34] On January 25, Jackson settled a civil suit out of court. He agreed to pay a total of $22 million to Jordan, Chandler, June Chandler (the mother) and prosecution attorney Larry Feldman.[27][34] Jordan refused to testify in a criminal trial, neither the police nor the Grand Jury pressed criminal charges, citing a lack of evidence, Jackson was not charged with a crime.[11][13][27][34] Both parties signed a legal agreement declaring they would not speak about the case details. When asked why he paid off his accuser, Jackson answered, “I wanted to go on with my life. Too many people had already been hurt. I want to make records. I want to sing. I want to perform again…It’s my talent. My hard work. My life. My decision.”[34] He also wanted to avoid a “media circus”.[11]

Three years later Jordan Chandler’s alleged account of the relationship was detailed in a book by journalist Victor M Gutierrez. The book was said to be based on a diary the boy had kept at the time and included details of alleged sexual encounters between Jackson and himself.[13] In 1996, Evan Chandler sued Jackson for around $60 million, claiming Jackson had breached an agreement never to discuss the case. In 1999, a court ruled in Jackson’s favor and threw out the lawsuit.[13]
Today, Jordan Chandler is in his late twenties living in a $2.35 million home in Long Island under an assumed name. He and his family also own a high-rise apartment in Manhattan and a condominium in Santa Barbara. Jordan Chandler and Jackson never spoke to each other again; he received his last installment from Jackson in June 1999.[34]
[edit] Effect on Jackson’s career
Jackson’s commercial appeal and public image declined, and further controversies involving Jackson, as well as a general decline within the twenty first century music industry[citation needed] were also factors. The allegations had other notable affects: the singer released material less frequently, toured less and the allegations against him became a recurring theme in his music.
The album he had released prior to the allegations was Dangerous in 1991, and with shipments of seven million copies in the US and 30 million copies sold worldwide, it stands as one of the world’s best-selling records.[35][36] The album’s appeal meant that singles were still being released through 1993 (at the time of the allegations) and Jackson was still traveling the world on his Dangerous World Tour. However, by the fall of 1993, with criticism mounting, the ninth single “Gone Too Soon” did not sell enough in the UK, and the tenth single “Dangerous” was canceled.[37] Jackson canceled the end of the tour, without performing in the US.[6][14]
After the allegations broke, songs specifically recorded by Jackson for the Addams Family Values movie and soundtrack were dropped.[10] Plans to market new Michael Jackson fragrances for Men and Women were shelved by the maker because of Jackson’s drug problems.[38] By the end of 1994, the ten year partnership between Jackson and drinks manufacturer Pepsi was dissolved, even though Jackson had grossed the company $500 million in a decade. Jackson’s fans then boycotted the company; its stock value fell 20 percent the following year.[25]
His next studio album was HIStory; released in the summer of 1995. It was a double album, making its level of success difficult to compare up against Dangerous. Worldwide sales were 18 million copies, but as a double disc album, it sold 36 million individual units.[39][40] It was Jackson’s second-best album in terms of grossed revenue, behind Thriller, and is the best-selling multiple-disc album of all time.[41] He promoted the album with the HIStory World Tour; it remains his most successful show to date with 4.5 million tickets sold. Despite the show’s success the singer avoided taking it to his home country, aside from two concerts in Honolulu, Hawaii. Jackson never performed another world tour.[42]
The allegations also had an affect on the content of Jackson’s music: HIStory, which was released shortly after the allegations, “creates an atmosphere of paranoia”, according to one writer.[43] Its content focuses on the public struggles Jackson went through just prior to its production. In the songs “Scream” and “Tabloid Junkie”, along with the ballad “You Are Not Alone”, Jackson directs much of his anger and personal hurt at the media.[44] In the track “D.S.”, Jackson launched a verbal attack against a character who is often cited to be Tom Sneddon; the District Attorney that requested his strip search. He describes the person as an antisocial, white supremacist who wanted to, “get my ass, dead or alive”. Of the song Sneddon said, “I have not, shall we say, done him the honor of listening to it, but I’ve been told that it ends with the sound of a gunshot.”[45] In the introspective ballad “Stranger in Moscow”, Jackson laments over his “fall from grace”.[43][44]
Released in 1997, and premiering at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, Ghosts was a short film written by Jackson and Stephen King (directed by Stan Winston).[46] The story was based loosely on how Jackson felt after he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993. In the plot, the Maestro—played by Jackson—is nearly chased out of his town by the residents and the mayor, because they believe him to be a “freak”.[46]
Jackson’s last album, Invincible, was released six years later in 2001, which was the longest period the singer has ever taken between records. It was seen as a relative commercial disappointment when compared to Jackson’s prior solo material; it shipped two million copies in the US (worldwide sales stand at approximately 10 million copies).[35][47] The album spawned three singles: “You Rock My World”, “Cry” and “Butterflies”, but only one reached the top 10 in the US.[48] The low sales were accredited to the lack of a supporting world tour, only two music videos being released to promote the album, and hampered by a label dispute. Just before the release of Invincible, Jackson had informed the head of Sony Music Entertainment, Tommy Mottola, that he was not going to renew his contract.[39] As a result, all singles releases, video shootings and promotions concerning the Invincible album were canceled.[39]

A decade later fans show their support as further allegations are made against the entertainerIn 2003, Jackson was charged with seven counts of child sexual abuse and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent in order to commit a child sexual abuse felony against Gavin Arvizo, who was under 14 at the time. Earlier that year, a Granada Television documentary, called Living with Michael Jackson, showed the pop star holding hands and discussing sleeping arrangements with Arvizo.[49] Jackson denied these allegations, saying that the sleepovers were in no way sexual in nature. Sneddon again led the effort to prosecute Jackson.[50] These prosecutions led to complaints that Sneddon was motivated by a “vendetta” against Jackson. Evidence to support these claims include Sneddon joking about Jackson’s greatest hits album being released on the same day as his arrest and saying, “Like the sheriff and I really are into that kind of music.” He then preceded to call Jackson “Wacko Jacko” and shouting “We got him, we finally got him” to the media, when he had only just began an investigation and had gathered limited information or evidence.[50][51]
The People v. Jackson trial began in Santa Maria, California, two years after Jackson was originally charged. During the trial the judge allowed the prosecution to bring in evidence needed to determine whether or not a defendant had a propensity to commit certain crimes. This meant that the prosecution were allowed to use any evidence they had against Jackson from the 1993 allegations to help secure a conviction.[11][12] Although evidence from 1993 was used, Jordan Chandler did not appear in the Jackson trial. The trial lasted five months, until the end of May 2005, Jackson was found not guilty on all counts in June.[52]

That doesn’t mean a damn thing having the best lawyer. You have been watching too many movies. The judge doesn’t make the verdict, the jury does. Bribing not as easy as you make it sound. In Los Angeles or any court you can have the best attorney, but if the evidence says that you did it beyond a reasonable doubt, they would have hung his ass. Hypothetically, lets say he bribed some jurors to vote in his favor and the judge didn’t agree, he could make them deliberate more or call a re trial. Let’s get one thing clear. Michael had held sleepovers at his house. But the way you’re describing it, he would “sleep” with kids as a a man and woman in love would sleep in the same bed, and that he was admitting to that? NO, he had sleepovers where he would be in the same room as the kids, but he would sleep in a separate bed, or on the floor, and the kids would sleep in another bed. Haven’t you ever heard of slumber parties? That’s all he’s guilty of. I am a preschool teacher myself, and I enjoy the company of children. Once a year we have a slumber party at school for the biggest children, where a few teachers and a bunch of children sleep in the same room area – Parents are also invited to stay if they wish. At these parties we play fun games, we play hide and seek, sing songs, read bedtime stories – There’s an exchange of hugs between teachers and children before they actually go to sleep. There’s nothing wrong with any of this behavior, and I believe these are the kind of activities that were going on at Michael’s sleepovers. And anyone who automatically reads sexual intentions into this behavior, must be some kind of a pervo himself.

Ι know in some cases he would actually share a bed with his closest friends, like for example Macaully Culkin – but even he had said that there was never ever anything sexual about that or even an implication of sexual behavior. They would just sleep, side by side, like any 2 friends sharing a bed in a hotel room – no touching or anything like that. Because of the misunderstandings and worries that it can cause, I don’t think it’s entirely appropriate for an adult to share a bed with a child friend. Not because it implies any pedophilic behaviour, but because of the way it might be misinterpreted. As an early childhood educator (preschool teacher), I’ve also had some babysitting jobs in the evenings, where at times I had to lay in the same bed as the child to comfort her/him for one reason or another, fx. the child could be anxious and stressed because mom and dad were not present, and may have had a hard time sleeping, and it had occurred that the child would ask me to lay with them for a while and for example read a story together. That’s a natural request from a child that feels comfortable with the person they’re with. Of course, we have to be careful as adult caregivers or friends to young children who are not closely related to us, because these situations can be misinterpreted, especially when the adult is a man.
If MJ was a normal-looking non-eccentric woman sharing a bed with the children she’s looking after or spending quality time with, I don’t think it would be frowned upon to such a degree or considered “sick”, like some judge MJ’s behaviour to be. I see MJ as a nurturing mother/father figure. He was strange-looking, eccentric and a bit wierd like any uniquely talented person usually is, but if you look beyond all that, he was just a nurturing parent figure with a childlike heart, but an adult mind, just wanting to give all the love, compassion and childlike joy that he had in his heart.

I entered the trial of Michael Jackson without much knowledge of the evidence. I couldn’t say for sure whether or not he did it. Having watched the trial on TV it is without doubt that he was innocent. The accusing family were appalling witnesses, and the panel of lawyers commentating on it all agreed. The mother was the least credible witness I’ve ever seen, and after the trial the members of the jury said as much. In order to be able to accuse Michael after the Arvizo family defended him shortly after the Bashir documentary the mother had to invent an absurd story about being kidnapped and being forced to defend him. Gavin explained away his telling a guidance counsellor that he wasn’t abused by saying it was because kids were making fun of him. This doesn’t ring true. The guidance counsellor wasn’t going to make a public announcement that there was no abuse! Gavin and his mother were forced to admit to lying under oath in a previous trial. I have to suspect that anyone who believes Michael was guilty simply didn’t follow the trial and is poorly acquainted with the facts. Michael was exonerated because of lack of evidence. Michael wasn’t even charged in 1993 because two grand juries couldn’t find enough evidence. Nor could they find another boy who claimed abuse.

I think these kids roamed Neverland freely, were sneaking around because MJ wasn’t there….snuck alcohol from MJ’s cellar, snuck into MJ’s bathroom and saw his suitcase (with pornography–normal for a man to have…there was no child pornography at all….not one! I read the whole 100+ pages and got nothing concrete from it. My conclusion is that the cancer patient kid lied and should have died! MJ was too kind and never knew how evil this family was!!!! His kindness was repaid with the evils of this family that has led MJ to his death. I am so angry!
The LA DA wanted to get MJ so bad, but lacked evidence to take either case to trial. That was the only reason why the cases did not go to trial.

But if you do not have the experience of having dealt with kids, you do not know how to say NO and they don’t give up until you say YES. So I can see how MJ would have a hard time to say NO..to the kids and to their families….that’s how they got all the gifts.
MJ is a like a kid himself….after the kids wanted to sleep in his bed several times….it became normal to him. The cancer patient even said MJ slept on the floor…..well, if MJ slept on the floor….I believe MJ saw it as a sleepover and didn’t distinguish whether or not these kids were blood relatives or not. No…I’m sorry….my child is 9 years old and my child only talks like that kid in the transcript when my child is lying. He stutters and the “I thinks…” come in when the lies are being formed. When he is telling the truth, he is adamant and does not stutter and is very sure of his story. Every single page in the transcript was filled with such inconquencies.
Also, neither Michael nor his defense attorney were allowed to be present….and no one at all was allowed to ask/question the witnesses to rebut what they had said. So with that being the case, the testimonials were so weak!
This was why the case did not go to trial…not enough evidence. They sued in civil court…not criminal….and no one stopped them from taking this to trial….except the lack of evidence–in both court cases.
As I said, my son is only 9 years old and he can be taught to fabricate very complex stories and lies…..and there’s not millions at stake. Please put yourself in Michael’s shoes…..and imagine being charged with such accusations and you’re innocent…..

I forgot to add that I have taught 1st grade and 2nd grade. It is not true when the experts tell you that children do not lie. In my 9 years of teaching, children lie all the time. They especially lie more when they think they might get into trouble. They lie when they get in trouble in class and they go home and tell their parents a different story. They come back to class and tell me a different story. I have to call home or their parents call me, angry because they believed their child. Sometimes I even try to explain to parents and most times, they always side with the child even when the child straightout lied! For instance, kids go home and tell their parents that they got in trouble for no reason. I tell the parents that your child got in trouble because they hit another kid, or were messing around in class. They still think I’m lying. Some even go as far as calling the principal to discuss it because they believe their child (who in the end turned out to be lying….and admitted to it).
If 1st and 2nd graders can lie so convincingly on their own, I cannot imagine what kinds of lies 10-13 year olds can come up with when assisted by their parents and the DA.
Please never believe something as truth until it can be proven…don’t accuse someone when all you have is the word of a child against them. There were mannequins of children (probably to match the theme of Neverland) but not much was ever said about them because they probably weren’t able to provide evidence that MJ was a pedophile. Perhaps MJ did not take advantage of children sexually but I believe he did take advantage of their friendship in other ways. I think it is definately inappropriate for an unrelated adult to share a bed with a child. I think it is incredibly naive to say he had the mental age of a child. In many ways, yes, there are similarities. He was shy and somewhat clueless – take his relationship with money as an example – but he was an adult, he was adult enough to raise 3 children without any intervention from authorities. Do you think this would have been permitted if the opposite was true? How do you degrade the character of an innocent human being. Lets look at Michael for a second. This is a man, who from the very moment that his father recognized his talent, at the age of 5, has been beaten (literally) to make good music. This is a man who from day one has been depended on by 8/9 other siblings (most of which were older then him) to put food on the table. This is a man who spent his entire childhood in the public eye, his every move being watched and judged, every show and song depended on, every opportunity to have so much as a friend or a trip to the playground or a normal class trip taken from him. This is a man who was forced to grow up and be serious and work before he even reached the age of childhood. A man who under strick religious upbringing was never allowed to date. A man who’s fathers wrath and that very religious upbringing, along with having his brothers damn him to silence as they had sex with random groupies in the bed that he was sleeping in is probaly the reason that he was so detached from the normal sexuality that human beings experienced. Failed marriages that most likely have a lot to do with the fact that this man was never allowed to be socialized. It is heartbreaking to know the suffering Michael Jackson endured. The suffering goes beyond the allegations of child molestation. Jordan and Michael were very happy together and his mother was ok with their relationship. They lived together. Evan (not Jordans biological father) wasn’t happy. Evan didn’t care about Jordan either. Evan made Jordan go though with it, Jordan didn’t want to because Michael and Jordan love each other.

I do believe that some very sick people took advantage of Michael for his money. We all know MJ just wanted to be loved and to help so many people. However, with this great desire came a dangerous level of trust in people with no good intentions.

in my humble opinion, 3 things:
- Jackson thought he was a child, but he was not… besides, no court found him unfit to raise his children, anyways… this was never an issue. Wouldnt a mentally ill person be separated for the sake of those three kids?

Money is the biggest corrupter of all. Why do kids in South East Asia get sold to be sex slaves by their OWN families? Because desperate people will do desperate things when the $$ come out. This is the sad reality people. I commend all of you who say no amount of money would ‘hush’ you up if your child was abused. But this is just not the case for all people.
I watched a fascinating doco by the BBC last night. It was balanced and described MJ the superstar and then thoroughly looked at the child abuse allegations, what happened in court, what happened with various $$ settlements.
Jordie’s parents allowed MJ to move into their house for a month and sleep in his room. MJ then took Jordie and his mother and sister I think overseas – for what Jordie and MJ described as their ‘honeymoon’. MJ gave the mother and sister a credit card and they went off travelling and shopping, leaving Jordie in Michael’s suite alone. Great parenting, huh, but as said, the $$ did the talking.
The thing that scared me was footage of MJ sitting next to Prince Albert at the world music awards. MJ was rocking in a highly sexualised way with this child on his lap. It was not normal in anyway.
After the trip Jordie was able to describe MJ’s private parts. Not normal. Police also found a series of alarms throughout Neverland that led to MJ’s bedroom. So MJ would know when anyone was coming to his bedroom. Alarms are fine, but why that room?
Money talks, people. I am sick of people making excuses for this person who clearly had an unhealthy interest in children. Heaps of people who are child stars do not behave this way. Heaps of people who are abused as children do then not go on to behave this way.
The courts are flawed because in many jurisdictions, if the victim is not willing to press formal charges they get dropped. And people can ’settle’ out of court for money, which happened in this case. If MJ was innocent, why pay 20 mill to the family. And, for many parents, having their child testify in front of the world’s media and relive the abuse would also be a victim. Ask any rape victim why they don’t go to trial.
Laytoya Jackson also came out during the allegations and said she had seen various cheques (yes plural) written for stupid amounts of money being paid to families were abuse allegations were raised. Go figure.
This guy was not some misunderstood ‘childlike’ innocent. People got abused and people got paid.

I watched this as well. I thought it odd that Jordy nor his sister had their own seat. The sister sat in the mother’s lap and Jordy sat on the edge of the seat between Michael’s legs. (Literally speaking, he wasn’t in Michael’s lap) There were a couple of times where the mother had left and Jordy took her seat and the sister was sitting in Michael’s lap…not between his legs but physically on his lap. Honestly, during these parts I thought it looked like a daddy with his kid in his lap. Interesting that the mother isn’t accused of child abuse for having her daughter sit in her lap while she moved to the music.
There was some movement going on when Jordy was sitting with Michael but I thought it was more along the lines ‘chair dancing’ since they were at a concert. Both Jordy and Michael were singing along with a Boys to Men song.
It really surprised me to later learn that it was during this very trip that Jordy later claimed the abuse started. Jordy seemed to be enjoying himself and smiling and moving to the music as well. I am a child sexual abuse survivor and, for me, it would have been very difficult to appear happy in that circumstance. I’m not saying everyone handles this kind of abuse the same way. Just that I know I couldn’t have sat between the legs of my abuser and looked convincingly like I was having a good time.

I would think it was so noone came in his suite uninvited regardless of who was in there with him. It doesn’t seem far fetched to me. The room had an upstairs and he wouldn’t have seen someone enter his room so he would need to be alerted by sound. This is a bit of speculation on my part since I don’t know if one could hear the door open when in the upstairs area. And if just wanted to keep people out so they wouldn’t interrupt him while he molested children, he could have just locked the door. From video I’ve seen it looks like one had to have a keypad combination to enter.

It’s been reported that there were similarities but not enough to be definative. Remember that Michael had just told Oprah in Jan of the same year that he had vitiligo which causes blotches on the skin. I’m thinking it would have been safe to say that Michael had splotches on his penis as well. If I remember correctly this was the basis of the “similarities” statement. Also it was claimed, if reports are to be believed, that Jordy said Michael was circumsized. He wasn’t…again according to reports.

Pretend that Michael didn’t actually sexually molest a kid….because, really it wasn’t ever proven. Which part of his interest in children was unhealthy? And was it unhealthy for the kid or was it because society would have viewed it as unhealthy?

For me, this statement is very subjective. Wouldn’t you have to be able to compare the specifics of one child star’s upbringing with that of another in order to make this statement. Don’t forget that people, even child stars, are individuals with their own personalities. For instance an introverted person will react differently than an extroverted person. One must take into account an individual’s life experience before placing them on a baseline for analysis and comparison. Are there any other child stars with Michael’s particular background including his early adulthood? Is there another who was “in star training” from the age of 5, a bona fide star around 12, a superstar during his 20’s and was, arguably, the biggest star on the planet in his early 30’s. His stardom started at a very early and age and continued to grow…..IMHO this is where he differs from most other child stars. Also his particular personality must be taken into account.
BTW, I chose your statement to reply to in depth because it was articulate without being nasty. I can understand your points and can even understand how you arrived at your conculsions. I haven’t seen many interactions between opposing views of the Michael Jackson controversy that didnt’ end up with a battle between “I Love Michael” and “Michael is a pedo” type statements.
